01What we collect
Nimbus collects as little as it can and still work. There is no account, no sign-in and no profile.
- Coarse location — a rounded coordinate used to fetch a forecast, and the names of any places you save as favourites.
- App preferences — units, theme, alert settings and widget configuration. These live on your device and sync through your own iCloud account, which we cannot read.
- Anonymous crash reports — only if you opted in to sharing analytics with developers in iOS Settings. These contain no location and no identifier we can tie to a person.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, advertising identifier, browsing activity or health data. Nimbus contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
02Location data
Location is requested only when you turn it on. If you decline, Nimbus works normally — you search for places by name instead, and everything except "current location" behaves the same.
Rounding
Before any coordinate leaves your device it is rounded to roughly one kilometre. That is precise enough for a forecast and too coarse to identify a home or a workplace.
Background updates
If you enable Live Activities, widgets or severe-weather alerts, Nimbus may request a forecast while the app is closed. It uses the same rounded coordinate and the same request path. You can revoke background location at any time in iOS Settings without disabling the rest of the app.
03How it is used
Rounded coordinates are sent to our forecast service, which returns the weather for that area and discards the request. They are used for nothing else — not to build a profile, not to measure engagement, not to train a model.
05How long we keep it
Forecast requests are not logged with an identifier and are not retained after the response is returned. Crash reports, when shared, are kept for 90 days and then deleted. Favourites and preferences live on your device and are removed when you delete the app.
06Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the CCPA you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and you may object to its processing. Because Nimbus holds no account and no identifier, in practice there is usually nothing to return — but write to us and we will confirm that in writing.
You can withdraw location permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Nimbus. Deleting the app removes everything stored locally.
07Children
Nimbus is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages, but it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13.
08Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will show a notice in the app before the change takes effect. Material changes are never applied retroactively.
